Why Patients Choose Us

A different kind of eye care.
One where the doctor sets the pace.

The big chains run on volume and corporate playbooks. We run on time, attention, and 16+ years of expertise. Every visit is built around your eye health — your questions get answered, your tests get explained, and you never feel rushed.

01

Personalized care

Every visit is built around you — your concerns, your eye health history, and your questions. No scripts, no rushed appointments, just attentive care from doctors who take the time to listen.

02

More time per patient

Our exams are among the most thorough in the area. Our doctors listen, explain every test, and make sure you understand your eye health.

03

Diagnostics first

OCT, ultra-widefield retinal imaging, electroretinography, visual fields. Technology that catches disease years earlier than standard exams.

Our Practice Philosophy

We don't just save eyes.
We save lives.

Early. The most powerful word in preventative medicine

The eyes are the only place in the human body where blood vessels can be observed directly — without surgery, without imaging, without guesswork. That makes a comprehensive eye exam one of the most powerful preventative health tools available.

At Better Vision TX, we look beyond your prescription. Changes in the blood vessels and tissues of the eye can reveal the earliest signs of conditions like hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, and neurological disorders — often before patients have any symptoms and before other tests would catch them.

Early detection changes outcomes. We believe that what we find during your eye exam can protect not just your vision, but your life.

Vascular Health
Signs of hypertension, high cholesterol & cardiovascular disease visible in the retinal vessels
Metabolic Health
Diabetic retinal changes detected years before vision loss — when intervention matters most
Neurological Health
Optic nerve and visual field changes that can indicate stroke risk, glaucoma & neurological disease
Services

From your first eye exam to complex disease management.

We treat eye conditions across every stage of life. From a child's first pair of glasses to ongoing glaucoma and diabetic eye care for our adult patients, our practice is equipped to be your long-term eye health partner.

The Premier Wellness Exam

Diagnostic technology that catches more, sooner.

Disease starts at the cellular level — long before it can be seen with a basic eye exam. Our diagnostic suite catches retinal disease, glaucoma, diabetic damage, and even neurological conditions years earlier than standard care.

/01

Optical Coherence Tomography OCT · 3D Eye Scan

The gold standard for preventative care. A non-invasive, painless 3D scan that visualizes every layer of your retina and optic nerve — like a CT scan for your eye.

/02

Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging EIDON · 200° Capture

A full digital map of your retina without dilation drops. Detects blood vessel changes from cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke risk.

/03

Electroretinogram RETeval · Functional Testing

A revolutionary device that measures how your retina functions — detecting damage years before structure is visibly affected. Rare in private practice. Clinically proven to be the leading indicator of disease progression in diabetic eye disease, making it an essential tool for any patient managing diabetes.

/04

iCare Tonometer No Air Puff · No Drops

The newest way to measure eye pressure for glaucoma screening — without the dreaded air puff. Comfortable for kids and adults.

/05

Visual Field Analyzer Central & Peripheral Mapping

Maps your central and peripheral vision to detect glaucoma, neurological conditions, stroke damage, and even brain tumors before symptoms appear.

/06

Rabin Color Vision Test Early Disease Detection · FAA Approved

A clinically advanced color vision assessment that goes well beyond standard screening. Changes in color perception can be an early indicator of retinal disease, optic nerve damage, and neurological conditions. Notably, the Rabin test is one of the few color vision tests approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for pilot certification — making us a trusted resource for aviators in the Houston area who require FAA-compliant vision testing.

As a pediatric registered nurse, I'm incredibly selective about who we trust with our family's eye health. We live in Pearland and make the long drive every time without hesitation because Dr. Farooque delivers exceptional, thorough, and compassionate eye care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions before you book.

What can I expect at my first visit?+
We start with a complimentary visual field analysis on every patient, plus retinal imaging when appropriate. You'll then meet with your doctor for a thorough conversation about your vision, eye health history, and any concerns. Your doctor will walk you through every test, explain what the results mean, and answer all of your questions. Every visit is built around what you actually need.
What's the difference between a vision exam and a medical eye exam?+
A vision exam (also called a routine or refractive exam) determines your prescription for glasses or contacts and is usually billable to your vision insurance. A medical eye exam diagnoses and manages eye conditions — glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, infections, and more — and is billable to your medical insurance. We offer both, and we'll help you understand which type of visit you need before you arrive.
What insurance do you accept?+
We accept most major vision and medical plans, including VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Spectera, Superior, Avesis, MetLife, Guardian, Medicare (traditional and supplemental), Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna Medical, United Healthcare, TriWest/Tricare, Community Eye Care, and FEP Blue Vision. If you don't see your plan, call us at (281) 970-3840 — we'll verify your benefits before your visit.
What is OCT and why do I need it?+
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is a painless, non-invasive scan that creates a high-resolution 3D image of your retina and optic nerve — similar to a CT scan, but for your eye. It detects early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and many other conditions years before they would be visible during a standard exam. We include OCT in our Premier Wellness Exam at the Cypress location.
What makes Better Vision TX different from other practices?+
A few things. First, we're independent and doctor-owned with 20+ years of combined experience serving Northwest Houston. Second, we invest heavily in advanced diagnostic technology (OCT, ultra-widefield retinal imaging, RETeval electroretinogram, visual fields, and the Rabin color vision test) so we catch conditions earlier than standard exams. Third, we take more time with each patient, and we believe preventative eye care is preventative health care — what we find in your eyes can reveal early signs of systemic disease well before other tests would catch it.
Do you see children?+
Yes — we see patients ages 5 and up, including school-age children. We offer specialty myopia control treatments to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children and teens.
Can I take my prescription with me?+
Of course. Federal law (the Eyeglass Rule) requires us to give you a copy of your prescription, and we hand it to you with no strings attached. You're welcome to fill it wherever works best for you.
How do I book an appointment?+
The fastest way is to book online — choose your preferred location (Cypress or Tomball) using the buttons at the top of this page. You can also call us directly at (281) 970-3840. Same-day appointments are often available, and urgent eye-care visits (red eye, sudden vision changes, irritation) are typically seen within 24 hours.
Can an eye exam detect other health problems beyond vision?+
Yes — and this is central to how we practice. The eyes are the only place in the human body where blood vessels can be observed directly without surgery. During your exam, our doctors look for early signs of hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, and neurological conditions — often years before other tests would catch them and before you'd have any symptoms. Many of our patients have been referred to their primary care physician based on findings from their eye exam. We believe that what we find during your exam can protect not just your vision, but your overall health.
What languages do your doctors speak?+
Our team of four doctors speaks English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Urdu. Dr. Sandra Alvarado speaks Spanish, Dr. Julie Nguyen speaks Vietnamese, and Dr. Ayesha Ahmed speaks Urdu. When booking, you're welcome to request a doctor who speaks your preferred language — we'll always do our best to accommodate.
